Color Artist Audrey Louise Reynolds spoke with Ravelin’s Miami correspondent Monica Uszerowicz about her work and her philosophy. Here she explains further in her native language of color in a video directed by Matilda Dahlgren, which she shares with Ravelin. As a conscientious dye maker, Reynolds is as concerned with creating vibrant dyes as she is with doing so in a way that keeps the earth itself vibrant.

If you aren’t already aware, fast fashion is prime environmental culprit after the oil industry, and — as we learned talking to Jaclyn Hodes — synthetic dying is the most harmful aspect of the fashion industry. So the example Reynolds is setting is not only beautiful but vital. As Reynolds puts it, “My collection is formulated with the hypothesis: If we can absorb carcinogens and negative properties from chemically dyed clothes leading to illness, then why couldn’t we infuse our clothes with colorful beneficial plant properties and absorb things that are good for us.”

This belief in healthy bodies and water without pollution is communicated beautifully through the mellow psychedelia of Dahlgren’s short, which lets the shimmering hues and undulating water transport the viewer to a place of peace.
