Water: the immutable object of vastness, tranquility, ataraxia—embodied in the sea, clouds, rivers, lakes and lagoons. It is the timeless symbol of Dionysian release; the ‘Return to the Mother;’ the age-old tool for dousing testosterone-inflamed, Apolline force; Poseidon’s murky instrument for death by drowning. While daunting for some, I’m accustomed to all of this—to storms falling, to waves crashing, to me drowning. I embrace it, for it’s the key to a life hard-lived.
